Nelly von Alven
German guitarist Nelly von Alven performs regularly as a soloist and chamber musician in Germany and abroad. She has been a prizewinner at numerous national and international competitions, including the Barmenia Competition (Germany), the International Guitar Competition Gevelsberg (Germany), the Twents Guitar Competition (Netherlands) and the Royal College of Music Guitar Competition (UK). Recent engagements include Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez with the Freien Sinfoniker Bielefeld, Germany and Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s Quintet for Guitar and Strings at the Young Virtuosi Festival in France. Nelly holds a Bachelor of Music degree with honours from the University of Music Cologne and a Master of Performance degree with distinction from the Royal College of Music in London. In London, she was the recipient of several scholarships, such as the Young Artists Scheme from the traditional Worshipful Company of Musicians. She studied guitar with Gerhard Reichenbach, Gary Ryan and Chris Stell. Nelly von Alven currently lives in Berlin, where she teaches at the University of Arts (UdK). A composer herself, her first album was released in 2015 and contains several premiere recordings, including of her own music. In 2022, she recorded a video of her 3-movement Suite carpatica for the prestigious label Open Strings Berlin.
